Description
On May 2, 2015, before a national television audience, Johnstown was declared the very first Kraft Hockeyville USA. That announcement was the culmination of a months long community effort to write essays and generate votes to help the Cambria County War Memorial Arena rise above more than 2,000 other venues and 10 other finalists for the title of America’s more passionate hockey town.
But Johnstown’s Hockeyville story actually began decades earlier, with the arrival of the Blue Birds franchise, and grew the the Jets, Red Wings, Chiefs and Tomahawks teams – and, of course, with the power of the iconic movie “Slap Shot.”
This book – the second edition of “Slap Shots and Snapshots” – is the most complete collection of stories, photographs and statistics related to Johnstown’s rich hockey tradition, expanded and updated to capture the excitement and impact of Johnstown’s charge to the Kraft Hockeyville USA victory.
